The Lizard loach stay fairly small maxing out at around 10 cm which means they can be kept in smaller aquariums. Due to their social aspect and the need to be kept in a group, the best minimum tank volume would be 150 liters. This allows for a group of 5-6 loaches along with other tank mates if required.

To breed Vietnamese lizard loaches (Hillstream loaches), provide a tank with high oxygen, strong water flow, and plenty of flat rocks and driftwood for grazing and spawning, mimicking their natural fast-flowing stream environment. Aim for temperatures around 22-28°C and a pH of about 7.2. Provide supplemental food like sinking pellets, algae wafers, and blanched vegetables. The breeding process involves a male chasing a female, followed by open-water spawning with eggs falling to the substrate to hatch.
